Amelia River Golf Club – A Place for Satisfactory Recreation

Amelia River Golf Club is a Tom Jackson-designed course that is renowned for its incredibly smooth TifEagle greens. Sculpted around a forest of majestic Live Oaks, Sabal Palms, Southern Pines and Wax Myrtles, the 18 holes at Amelia River offer a challenge to all skill levels.

A lot of people filled the Fernandina Beach City Commission Chambers for their May 21 regular meeting and the first discussion item was a controversial one – The ARGC leasehold. Here are some of the best features of Amelia river golf club.

The Course

Formerly known as Royal Amelia Golf Links, this course is a fun yet challenging experience for any level of golfer. Located next to Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport, the course features a quiet and natural setting that will enchant golfers and non-golfers alike. The rolling fairways wind through majestic marshes, thick oak forests and scenic oceanfront dunes. Natural waste bunkers and large greens further shape the character of this spectacular layout.

The prevailing theme at Amelia River is brains over brawn, with each hole providing a different test that demands strategic thinking. Many of the holes provide wide open experiences, while others will remind you more of a Scottish links-style course with narrow tree lined challenges. The 13th is a great example of this, as it runs along the airport and requires a strategic three shot to make it up over water.

A round at Amelia River often includes a birdie or two, as well as plenty of challenges and a chance to play your best golf. The club s large TifEagle greens are well maintained and roll smooth, fast and true. The course s signature 17th is an island green par 3, while the 18th ends by the expansive tidal marsh of the Amelia River.

The pristine course was designed by Tom Jackson and opened in 2000. It rambles alongside the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport, is otherwise free of course-side development, hosts lots of wildlife and beckons golfers of every skill level. It s recognized as one of the area s most prestigious courses and is known for its incredibly smooth greens, sculpted around a forest of majestic Live Oaks, Sable Palms, Pines and Wax Myrtles.

The Clubhouse

Formerly known as Royal Amelia Golf Links, this golf course is located near Fernandina Beach and offers a user-friendly challenge that players of all skill levels can enjoy. Close to many of the vacation lodging options on Amelia Island, this Tom Jackson design features a wonderful blend of wide open holes and tight tree-lined tests that reward those who favor brains over brawn.

The large TifEagle greens are sculpted around a forest of majestic live oaks, sabal palms, pines and wax myrtles. Many holes offer a wide open links style experience while others are narrow and wooded with stylish bunkering and rippling earthmounds. A few lakes and ponds adorn holes throughout the course, while a great collection of par 3s, including the signature 17th, with water in close attendance, culminate in an exciting finish by the edge of the expansive tidal marsh of Amelia River.

After playing a round of golf at Amelia River, relax with a cold beverage in the clubhouse. Featuring Cape Cod styling, the clubhouse includes a casual grill called the River Bar and Grille that serves breakfast sandwiches, burgers, salads and other tasty fare. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. There is also a full-length driving range for those who want to warm up before their rounds, as well as a pro shop and PGA professionals to give lessons.

The Bar & Grill

Amelia Island is home to a host of upscale resort and daily-fee courses that make playing golf in the area a true pleasure. However, one course that many visitors overlook is the Amelia River Club. A Tom Jackson design that opened in 2000, this layout rambles alongside Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport, continues otherwise free of course-side development, hosts tons of wildlife, boasts an island green, and finishes by the Amelia River.

Renowned for its incredibly smooth TifEagle greens, this 18 hole, par 72 track is a favorite among local golfers and visitors to the area. Sculpted around a forest of Live Oaks, Sabal Palms, Pines and Wax Myrtles, this course offers a challenge to all skill levels where ball control and accuracy are paramount.

The open, rolling fairways are reminiscent of a traditional Scottish links style golf course and provide players with a sense of freedom. Despite the wide, open fairways, several holes feature individual and groups of trees that, while adding beauty and difficulty, require cautious ball placement.

After your round, you can enjoy a snack or beverage at the River Bar and Grill. The menu features a variety of breakfast sandwiches, burgers and salads with both indoor and outdoor seating. The Bar and Grille is also available for private events and special occasion dining.

The Pro Shop

Thirteen of the 18 holes on the course feature water in some way, shape or form while 50 sand bunkers dot the landscape. Streams and tidal marshes weave in and out of the holes, adding a lot of character to this unique layout. The signature hole is the 17th, a demanding par three surrounded by water, that requires a precise tee shot to reach the island green.

The Amelia River Club is a family oriented private club that provides a full range of exceptional golf, social and recreational activities in harmony with the natural setting of Amelia Island. The Club is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by a knowledgeable and courteous staff, a fully staffed pro shop, practice facilities, and a full service bar and grill with indoor and outdoor seating.
