Launching Friday September 17, this vibrant new local from the Hallmark Group – operators of Lefty’s Music Hall, Finn McCool’s Irish Pub and Retro’s Cocktail Lounge – is the closest you’ll get to Cuba without your passport.
The pulsating space boasts an extensive drinks menu geared towards fuelling a night out, from an ode to Ernest Hemingway (a blend of maraschino liqueur and pink grapefruit) to the Smokey Cuban (a refreshing mix of Bacardi White Rum, sourdough and tropical lime). Lending itself to warmer Queensland weather, for something lighter try a quenching Watermelon Basil Sour or a Havana Colada.
Moale James, 23, from Papua New Guinea was denied entry to the venue because of her facial tattoos, which she wears for cultural reasons and have been passed down through generations. In a private message sent to Ms James, the club said they were sorry for causing unintended distress but would stand by their policy of refusing entry to people who display offensive body art, which is against Queensland’s strict liquor laws. Ms James is calling for the venue to review its policy but, if not, she hopes her story will change the way people think about facial tattoos.
