The Course

Designed by Tom Fazio, this magnificent golf course was built out of the natural landscape of a coastal sandhills setting. The design pays homage to Donald Ross through the use of slopes, false fronts and swales that characterize his work.

The course is also a popular venue for weddings and corporate events. The club offers a full range of golf amenities including a pro shop, practice facility, snack bar, banquet room, locker rooms, and swimming pool. It is required that all members and guests wear proper golf attire while on the course. This includes a collared shirt and slacks or bermuda shorts for men and a blouse or similar outfit for women. Denim, tank tops, workout or beach apparel is not permitted on the course at any time.

Clubhouse, which became a status symbol of sorts for Silicon Valley types after its launch last year, has shifted gears and is trying to court influencers in an effort to grow its user base. In December, Taylor Lorenz of The New York Times reported that the app had 600,000 users and a focus on people it considered an elite clientele. It is no longer invite-only, but it has a lot of ground to make up to compete with other social media apps. This will be an interesting case to watch as it evolves.
The Members
Established to meet the UNC General Alumni Association’s needs for a pleasurable setting for dining, entertainment and fellowship, the Club has become a family home that welcomes both alumni and non-alumni. The Club is committed to meeting the needs of members and guests while balancing financial appropriateness with member and guest desires for excellence. The Club strives to provide associates with a work environment that is fair, respectful and rewarding. This requires communication and accountability in a manner that promotes teamwork and commitment to quality.
The Staff
The club has a dedicated, professional staff to service the members. It has an experienced head golf professional, PGA Director of Instruction and an Assistant Golf Pro. They are responsible for the daily operations of the golf course and golf shop. They also provide instruction through lessons and clinics to both members and guests.
Oversees all golf operations including tournaments, rules, tee sheet activity and merchandise inventory. Maintains appropriate mix and levels of regular stock and season products. Coordinates shop changeovers to accommodate the needs of different seasons. Prepares and analyzes monthly inventory reports, special order records and provides customer service by answering the telephone.
Works closely with department heads on a daily basis to ensure timely communication and to create a cohesive team to meet the needs of the Membership and Guests. Remains positive and upbeat with all associates at all times, exhibiting a pleasant demeanor to Members and Guests.
Has strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Provides coaching and direction to staff and assists in the development of employees for future advancement. Establishes and maintains operating standards relating to hospitality, service and cleanliness of all facilities. Objectively evaluates personnel and performance based on those standards.
